I was thinking of a perfect title for my
next blog, and naming it right after the novel, but I needed something more,
something that reflects its impact on my life. The only thought of Wuthering
Heights makes me feel like I’m
perfectly okay, nothing can bother me, it’s just me and the book I love the most, it’s a familiar feeling.. It’s like coming home.
I just finished reading Wuthering Heights (for the 6 or 7th time), something
I dare to call my all time favourite book J There are many books that are dear to me and I could add them to
“my favourites” section, but this one has completely changed me, as a person,
my view of the world, love, passion. It’s the one that taught me that there are such
strong feelings like love and hatred which are not
opposites but two sides of the coin and depends on who's flipping it.
Nothing could change something I like to
call my own personal ritual, first reading it in Slovak, then in English. This
little activity of mine fills me with mixture of feelings of pleasure and joy,
sadness and eagerness in the same time.
There are tons of things I love about
Wuthering Heights. It would definitely take me years to fulfill this
satisfaction of mine and write about every single detail that amazes me and
always, you’ve heard me right, always takes my breath away.
I wanted to write something from the
depth of my heart that could describe what this novel means to me, but then,
after typing and deleting the words, something better hit me. I couldn’t have said it better myself than Mr.Steinbeck:
“This thing
fills me with pleasure. I don’t know why, I can see it in the smallest detail.
I find myself recalling it again and again, each time bringing more detail out
of a sunken memory, remembering brings the curious warm pleasure.”
I’m always thinking of Wuthering Heights, it’s like a „book of the wisdom“ for me.
Believe me, when I’m saying, that I would give anything to live in
the heart of the Yorkshire remote moorland just when Heathcliff and Cathy did; to be this
silent observator... Only if for an instance..
Let me get back to you as soon as I finish
reading the Wuthering Heights in EN.
